Zelensky Praises Biden,Backs Harris After Reelection Withdrawal

KYIV – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to U.S. President Joe Biden for his decisive support for Ukraine. In a post on his X handle on Monday, Zelensky commended Biden’s “tough but strong decision” to end his reelection campaign.

“The current situation in Ukraine and all of Europe is no less challenging, and we sincerely hope that America’s continued strong leadership will prevent Russian evil from succeeding or making its aggression pay off,” Zelensky wrote.

Biden’s decision to withdraw from the U.S. presidential race as the Democratic nominee has sent shockwaves through the political landscape. In a statement on his X handle on Sunday, Biden explained, “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Following his announcement, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate. “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats, it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” Biden stated.

Biden’s withdrawal comes after a debate performance that raised concerns among Democrats about the 81-year-old president’s fitness for office and his ability to defeat former President Donald Trump, who recently survived an assassination attempt.

Biden’s departure from the race leaves the Democratic Party in an unprecedented situation just months before the November election.
