Lusaka, Zambia – Health authorities in Zambia have reported an increase in COVID-19 cases following the recent cold season, Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo announced on Monday.
In a press briefing, Masebo revealed that approximately 3,070 tests were conducted between May and June, with a 2.4 percent positivity rate. This marks an increase from the 1.5 percent positivity rate recorded in previous months.
The rise in cases has been noted across six of Zambia’s 10 provinces, with Lusaka Province reporting the highest number of cases. Between January and June this year, the country recorded a total of 4,770 COVID-19 cases.
Masebo also noted an uptick in respiratory and influenza-like illnesses, attributing the increase to the cold and dry conditions experienced during the season.
