The UNICEF Chief of the Sokoto Field Office, Michael Juma, announced significant support for Zamfara State during a three-day formal opening of UNICEF’s interaction with state government officials on the state’s Ten-Year Strategic Plan.
During the interaction, stakeholders expressed optimism that the fund would aid Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration in achieving sustainable development across social, economic, and environmental sectors.
In his presentation, Juma emphasized that the fund would enable women and children in Zamfara State to access free healthcare services. He added that UNICEF is prepared to develop an accountability, monitoring, and evaluation framework to help key officers manage the strategic plan and track progress. Juma pledged UNICEF’s support to enhance staff competitiveness in reporting and budgeting.
UNICEF also committed to assisting Governor Lawal in understanding resource allocation, tracking results, and transforming the lives of the people.
Governor Lawal praised UNICEF for its support, describing the ten-year strategic plan as a roadmap to guide his administration in addressing challenges and achieving development goals.
UNICEF further stated its dedication to ensuring that children in the state have access to quality and inclusive education. Special emphasis will be placed on enrolling out-of-school children, enabling them to acquire a quality education and realize their full potential.
