Senate Majority Leader Announces Onyewuchi’s APC Defection

ABUJA – During Tuesday’s plenary session, Senate Majority Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele announced the defection of Senator Onyewuchi from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Similarly, Salman Idris, a member of the House of Representatives, declared his defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC. Idris, who represents the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, formally announced his decision in a letter read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on the House floor.

Earlier in the day, the Senate welcomed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma into the chamber, adhering to Senate protocols. Uzodimma, the Chairman of the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum, attended with his team to witness Onyewuchi’s defection.

In his letter, Onyewuchi cited the ongoing crisis within the Labour Party as his reason for resigning. He noted that his decision aligns with constitutional guidelines. Onyewuchi’s move increases the number of APC Senators from Imo State to three.

Following the announcement, Onyewuchi was greeted by APC lawmakers and escorted to his new seat in the APC section of the Senate Chambers.
