Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has visited three general hospitals to welcome the First Baby of the Year 2022.
The first baby, a male, baby Abdul-Ganiyu weighing 3.2kg was delivered at fifteen seconds past midnight at Harvey Road Health Centre and Maternity, Yaba by Mrs. Sukurat Abdul-Ganiyu.
Another baby girl, baby Ajila who weighed 2.5kg was delivered at 12:00 a.m by Mrs. Adeola Ajila. She was the first baby of the year 2022 in Onikan Health Centre.
Also, a baby boy was born at 12:10 a.m by Mrs. Simbiat Qudus-Layembi at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital. He weighed 3.1kg.
Speaking at programme, Sanwo said it has become a yearly tradition of the Lagos State Government to welcome the first baby to land.
According to her, the birth of new babies was a thing of joy.
“It’s a thing of joy when someone gave birth to a newborn baby, It’s reminding us of new promises and new hope. Even though we are thinking of all that has happened in 2020, 2021 by the time God ushers in 2022 and it starts by giving us a baby. It’s a sign of blessing.”
While presenting gifts to the babies, Sanwo-Olu urged mothers to register their babies in state hospitals and take advantage of the Lagos State Health Scheme, ‘Ilera Eko’. She also encouraged the general public on the need for COVID 19 vaccination. Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, stated thar the state government was constantly aspiring for mothers to deliver safe babies adding that it also committed to improving its health services by refurbishing medical facilities, providing infrastructure that would make hospitals across the state perform effectively and optimally.
