President Bola Tinubu has submitted the names of nominees for the Police Service Commission (PSC) to the Senate at the start of a new legislative session on Thursday. The nominees are:
Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashim Argungu as Chairman
Chief Onyema Uche as Secretary
Retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu as Member
This submission follows the recent dismissal of retired Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase from his position as Chairman of the PSC.
The PSC has been in a dispute with the current Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police Force, Kayode Egbetokun, over alleged interference in the recruitment of constables, prompting the PSC to call on President Tinubu to dismiss Egbetokun.
Additionally, President Tinubu urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nomination of Dr. Olatunji Bello as the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
The nomination of Dr. Olatunji Bello has been referred to the Senate Committee for Trade and Investment, while the nominations of Argungu, Uche, and Lakanu have been referred to the Senate Committee on Police Affairs for further legislative work, with a report expected within one week.
