The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has declared a state of emergency on oil production to boost Nigeria’s crude oil output and reserves.
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, announced this during the 23rd Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition in Abuja.
Kyari said, “We have decided to stop debating and declared war on the challenges affecting our crude oil production. We have the right tools, know what to fight, and what to do at the asset level. We have engaged our partners and will work together to improve the situation.”
He explained that a detailed analysis showed Nigeria could produce two million barrels of crude oil per day without new rigs, but the main problem is the slow action of industry players.
Kyari added that this “war” will help NNPCL and its partners quickly remove obstacles to efficient production, like delays in procurement processes.
