Lagosians were barely awake when torrential rains began, disrupting daily activities and flooding roads across the city. Workers in the nation’s commercial capital struggled to reach their workplaces amid the heavy downpour.

The Iyana-Oworo and Olopo Meji areas leading to the 3rd Mainland Bridge were completely flooded this morning, causing severe traffic that extended to Alapere. Many who braved the rain were seen stranded at various bus stops, struggling to commute to their destinations. Motorists faced hours-long delays as they navigated the flooded routes.

The downpour also caused a tree to fall around the Airport U-turn in Oshodi. Personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) promptly cleared the fallen tree, facilitating traffic flow and ensuring public safety. Their swift intervention helped restore vehicular movement, mitigating potential congestion and hazards in the area.

Reacting to the flood on his X handle, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, stated that a team from the ministry had been deployed to monitor and clear the flash flood at the Olopo Meji section of Iyana-Oworo. Wahab thanked motorists for their patience and understanding, noting that the road is now free from rainwater.
