Former Super Eagles midfield star Prince Ikpe Ekong has told SCORENigeria his son, Emmanuel, will soon take his chance in the Italian Serie A.
Emmanuel Ekong, 19, was an unused sub this past weekend, when Empoli fell 3-1 to Lazio in the opening game of the new Serie A season.
This is the first season as a pro for the young striker after he came through the youth ranks at Empoli.
Ekong senior played for many years in Italy and Sweden and he said he hopes Emmanuel soon gets his chance in the Italian top flight.
“I thought he would get to play for him to show the world how good he is,” Ekong told SCORENigeria
“But I have also told him to be patient and that his time to play will come.
“He doesn’t want to sit on the bench, but I told him this is his first year and at his age, he has to be patient and that a good player will always be noticed.
“They wanted to loan him to a Serie B team, but in pre-season the club saw his qualities and they decided to keep him.”
What kind of a striker is Emmanuel Ekong?
“He is fast, has good technique and he scores goals,” said his father.
He has already represented Sweden at U18 level even though he was born in Italy.
His three younger brothers are also on track to becoming professional footballers – Shalom, Elisha and Elijah.
