Players in the housing and urban development sector and the Housing Ministry are set to launch the National Land Registration and Documentation Programme (NLRDP).
The initiative is led by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in collaboration with the World Bank, with the aim of addressing the longstanding challenges of land registration and documentation in Nigeria.
The Minister Ahmed Dangiwa in a statement said: “Land registration remains a critical aspect of our nation’s development. By establishing a comprehensive, digitized system, we can enhance land tenure security, reduce disputes, and unlock the economic potential tied to land ownership. This programme is a significant step towards achieving the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda”.
Also, he stated that NLRDP is designed to promote sustainable urban development, ensure transparency, and foster accessibility in land administration.
According to him with a significant portion of land across Nigeria undocumented, this initiative aims to streamline land registration processes, improve data accuracy, and create a robust framework for land management.
With the collective effort of all involved, the NLRDP is poised to redefine Nigeria’s land administration landscape, fostering economic growth, social equity, and long-term urban resilience he noted.
He said the programme will bring together key players, including the Federal Government, State Governments, private sector leaders, and civil society organizations with discussions centering around the outcomes of a comprehensive baseline survey and the strategic implementation plan for the NLRDP.
