Edo State Deputy Governor, Engr. Godwins Omobayo, welcomed over 500 defectors from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) in his Akoko-Edo local government area, bolstering the prospects of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the September 21st governorship election.

During the reception of the defectors, primarily from Ward Five of the local government area, Omobayo, accompanied by Akoko-Edo I representative in the state House of Assembly, Hon Yekini Idaiye, council chairman Hon Tajudeen Alade, and other leaders, declared that the PDP had become the pride of Edo people due to the significant achievements of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration over the past seven and a half years.

Omobayo emphasized, “Akoko-Edo is a PDP stronghold, and the formidable pair of the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, has attracted well-meaning citizens and residents of the state. They symbolize continuity and consolidation of the Obaseki-led administration.”

He urged the defectors to collaborate with other party members to recruit additional supporters and secure votes for Ighodalo and Ogie, ensuring the council area’s development.

Former APC Ward 5 leader Alhaji Ibrahim Lamidi, Labour Party leaders Matthias Igodifo and Comrade Ojeh Ojishua, speaking on behalf of the defectors, praised the PDP as the only party capable of delivering democratic dividends to the people of Dangbala and Edo State. They pledged to secure Ward 5 for the PDP, highlighting it as the best way to reward Governor Obaseki for his visionary leadership.

The Deputy Governor also welcomed another group of defectors in Ekpesa, led by former APC youth leader Lucky Adesina.
