Ikeja, Lagos – The police on Tuesday arraigned a 38-year-old businessman, Sanni Alhassan, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving stolen spaghetti valued at N54 million.
Prosecution Counsel, Inspector John Iberedem, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence between February 18 and 23 at Taiwo Sabo Aharon Road. According to Iberedem, Alhassan knowingly received 4,725 cartons of Honeywell Spaghetti, worth N54 million, which were stolen.
“He couldn’t provide any satisfactory explanation as to how he acquired the goods,” Iberedem stated.
The offence contravenes Section 328(9)(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, Iberedem added.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate E. Kubeinje granted Alhassan bail in the sum of N4 million, with two reliable sureties in like sum. The sureties must be gainfully employed and provide proof of tax payments and verification.
The case was adjourned until July 27 for hearing.
