The National Association of Block Moulders of Nigeria (NABMON) has reiterated that it is still waiting on the Federal Government to proactively bring down the price of cement.
Adesegun Banjoko, National President of the association asked government to apply the same pragmatic steps it took in stabilising the naira, reducing the prices of petroleum products and other essential commodities to force down the price of cement.
“As a matter of emergency, we expect no less attitude, ways, means and policies from the government in addressing the rising price of cement.
“More so, the product has been found preferable by governments, both federal and states, for the construction of our roads, constituting additional demand pull.
“For crying out loud, let there be more sources of supply of quality cement either by importation or proliferation in order to bring down the ever rising prices of cement so as to avert compromises and sharp practices that will in turn lead to collapse of buildings, taking away precious lives and hard earned resources.”
Banjoko also touched on the issue of NABMON ID card and QR Code which he said will be used to assist the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and other government regulatory agencies, in carrying out quality oversight functions.
He noted further that it will also assist in differentiating authentic members of the association, who are exposed to seminars, training and workshops from quacks who are not so enabled.
Touching on other salient national issues, he declared: “Government’s attitude towards peace and safety of lives and property in Nigeria should not be optional or compromised on the altar of politicking.
“Government must be seen to be on top of security matters for meaningful development to take place.
Nobody right now seems to be interested in any further excuses on the part of the government anymore.”
This way, the block moulders noted that international investors will be attracted to the Nigerian market including Nigerians in the Diaspora who will be tempted to come back home to contribute their quota in the development of their homeland.
