9mobile Appoints Abolaji Idowu as New Chief Financial Officer

The Board of Directors of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited, operators of 9mobile, has appointed Abolaji Idowu as its new Chief Financial Officer. Idowu succeeds Mrs. Nkem Oni-Egboma, who is stepping down to pursue new opportunities outside the company.

In a statement released on Tuesday, 9mobile noted that Idowu’s appointment is part of a significant leadership change aimed at driving business transformation. This change follows the recent appointment of a new CEO to spearhead the transformation process.

The statement highlighted Idowu’s extensive experience in senior positions across Europe and Africa, where he has raised finance, transformed organizations, championed growth, delivered cost savings, optimized asset utilization, reorganized companies, and prepared entities for new markets. His career spans several countries, including the United Kingdom, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Belgium, and the UAE.

9mobile CEO, Obafemi Banigbe, expressed confidence in Idowu’s abilities, stating, “Idowu is a valuable addition to our high-performance team. He brings perspectives and skill sets that can drive strategic financial decision-making, foster innovation, and enhance risk management. I look forward to working with him to accelerate the delivery of our transformation strategy.”

Idowu expressed excitement about his new role, saying, “I am thrilled to be part of this new phase of business transformation. I look forward to collaborating with the management team, staff, and other stakeholders to achieve our shared goals.”

As CFO, Idowu will provide strategic leadership for the finance team and oversee financial decisions aligned with current trends and EMTS’s strategic vision. He joins 9mobile with over 20 years of experience, having led finance transformations and delivered growth for global giants like Vodafone, Telefonica O2, MTN Nigeria, Starcomms PLC, Shell, Barclays, PepsiCo International, British Gas, Johnson & Johnson, Norgine Pharmaceutical, and Vivo Energy.

Idowu holds a bachelor’s degree in Management and Accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Manchester Business School. He is a certified chartered accountant, certified financial analyst, and certified business coach.
